The 2024 Canada Super Incuse Maple marks the 45th anniversary of Walter Ott’s iconic Sugar Maple Leaf design and is the last year that the Super Incuse Maple Leaf will feature this design. Due to a quirk at the Royal Canadian Mint, the 2024 Canada Super Incuse Maple will be the only Walter Ott-designed Sugar Maple Leaf issued in 2024 to feature Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
Struck from 1oz of .9999 fine silver, using advanced pre-forming technology and thicker planchets, the 2024 Canada $20 1oz Silver Super Incuse Maple Leaf features a Super Incuse strike that is 5 times deeper than any incuse strike seen on previous maples. In addition to the canyonesque depth, the incuse maple leaf has also been specially plated with 24-karat gold. The gold plating was also added to Queen Elizabeth’s effigy and the raised rim encircling the coin.
Specially crafted for this issue, both the obverse and the reverse display an intricately detailed and unique “mapleburst” field. The “bursting” pattern has a beautiful satin finish that subtly contrasts the frosted field and adds to the coin’s elegance. Additionally, the innermost maple leaves have the number “45” inscribed in honor of the 45th anniversary of Walter Ott’s Sugar Maple Leaf design.
The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s famous effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which has been seen on Canadian coinage since 2003, exuding poise and strength. The reverse features the iconic Sugar Maple Leaf design created by Walter Ott, which has remained unchanged since 1979. Often referred to as the “Emblem of the Nation’s Spirit,” the maple leaf has been an important and recognizable symbol for nearly three centuries.
With a mintage limited to only 8,000, this extraordinary coin completely sold out within hours of its release by the Royal Canadian Mint. Of this limited number, only 1,544 have been certified as First Day of Issue by NGC and graded in a perfect condition of PF 70.
